The scene of mother and calf interaction is very tender to witness. A female Humpback whale is a doting mother: she will shower her calf with affectionate nuzzles, reassuring guidance and constant protection. Mothers also show enduring tolerance for the playful antics of the calves which frolic clumsily at their side. The calf stays close to the mother and swims in a low-pressure area created around her as she swims.
