TIMELESS STRUGGLE
When groups of male humpback whales come together and compete for the primary escort position with a female, fighting will occur. The larger males will do battle until one becomes dominant and tries to approach the female for mating. Often males are wounded by barnacles encrusting their bodies, as they are racked across the skin of the challenger. This performance observed from underwater is spectacular and a range of behaviors are displayed in this timeless struggle to propagate the species.
